I have a set of Big block heads casting No.2951250. My question, is what year were these made and how do they compare with other heads such as the 906's 452 and etc. These heads came with a 67 383 I bought but I am not sure if they are the originals. thanks for your help.

They should not be from a '67, '68 is more likely. They are pretty much the same as the '906' heads and were used at the same time, same port configuration, chambers etc. I don't know why these heads are not documented in 'lists', maybe they are pretty uncommon although I have seen a few. Chambers are about 90cc unmilled, just the same as in almost any BB open chamber head. All the Mopar BB open chamber heads are about equal, so don't pay much attention to the casting numbers unless doing a resto.

Hey there. I have never heard of the casting number you said. Is it possible that you read the number wrong? Where did you find that number? The casting number is under the valve cover. I looked in the mopar performance book and checked all B and RB castings from 1962-1978. There was no "250". The correct head for a 67 383 is the "516" closed chambered heads.

Like I said, it's a head that for some reason isn't in the lists. I have seen it in some '68 383's, and I have compared it side by side to a 906. There doesn't seem to be difference.

GG lists that as a 1968 383 or 440 head. I don't believe I've seen them myself. I have seen the 902 head which is almost as uncommon. Who knows what the engineers were doing. It must have cost a fair amount of money to make a unique casting for a short period of time. Maybe something happened and they had to make a quick change on the line or a bring a backup tool on line.

This is the strangest thing I have run into for a while. Thanks for the input All I know is that the motor is supposed to be a 383 Magnum for what that is worth. The engine block has a 67 build date so that sounds possible.
