I need help with my project car. I have a 1975 Plymouth Valiant with a Dodge 360 out of a Dart. My brother picked up a set of 340 X Heads for an extremely good price. I would love to put these heads on my 360 for two reasons.
1. they are rebuilt and in great shape, stock arent 2. they have much better flow and better exaust manifolds. My problem is, the stock rocker arms rub against the springs of the 340 heads. I need to know what rocker arms are recommended to clear the springs in the 150-250 dollar range. Also i need to know what problems can occur when bolting a Edelbrock Performer manifold with these heads. I dont want to buy new rocker arms and find out my manifold and 5 other parts wont fit. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also if anybody knows of any auto swap meets within arkansas, that information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, edc@cswnet.com |

What do you mean the stock rocker arms rub against the springs? I can't picture this.

a) are the push rods to long ? to short ? are the rockers for the 340 or the 360 ? the 340 heads should fit the engine but i used the 340 rockers and bars and the 360 push rods and didn't have a problem hope this helps.

I'm using the 360 pushrods and 360 rockers. The main problem is that I dont have the rockers for a 340. I need to know which aftermarket rocker to buy. If the 340 rockers will work with 360 pushrods, I can try to dig some good ones out of a junk yard.

OK Valiant, I'm going to guess that the springs on the X heads are fatter and taller than the ones on the stock 360 heads. They may even be set up with long stem valves. See if your brother can find out who did this recent work on these heads, and ask the shop what kind of hardware you are looking at here. You may need some kind of a special or aftermarket rocker here, but you will know more when this question is answered. LOL
