Default How to remove turbocharger with engine in car?

I recently found a couple 2.2 Turbo mopars at the local wrecking yards and plan on yanking the turbos off them, problem is that the turbo is on the backside of the engine and so basically inaccessible. The yard is a pick-your-part so I can't get them to help me at all... anybody have any tips on how to quickly remove the turbo off one of these cars without resorting to a torch? The only thought that came to me was that I'd have to take the head off first. I'd just pull the engine, but that's not possible because there's no way to lift it out of the car.

Default whadda pain!

First, be sure it's the turbo you want. You can check out the correct application at Gary Donovan's site.
I kow several folks who cut the exhaust pipe and pull the head to get 'em out.
If it's safe to get under the car, you may be able to reach some of the 10 mm manifold bolts that way. Be sure you remove the oil and water lines from the turbo. If you're gonna be under the car, I'd yank 'em last so you don't have to lay in that mess.
One thing that helps bigtime is to pull the hood and hinges.

These things can be a booger to get to. Remember that when you're installing them on your car. When my headers were fabbed, the only thing I pulled off the engine were the old headers and my plug wires. That ensured access to my plugs and everything else down there.
Also make sure you can get the valve covers on and off if your headers go upwards like mine do.

What's the URL for Donovan's site?
Thanks for the tip on the valve covers, hadn't thought of that possibility; it would've really sucked to get the whole thing together and then discover that I couldn't get the VC's off w/o taking the whole induction system apart

naaaa... it won't happen for a little while. The roomie is finally moving out (after two years). While this means I get my whole house back, it also puts a dent in the disposable income.
I'll need to finish off the hot rod before playing with the cop car.

Well, maybe I'll be keeping YOU posted on MY tt318 then Luckily I am not footing the bill, that's my friend's job since they're going on his car. Not that it'll be terribly expensive but $500 is $500!
