My '70 Duster starts good cold (just put new points/plugs in), but if it has been running for 10min+, it wont restart until about 5 hours have passed.

What could my problem be?

Is it slow cranking, normal cranking, or no cranking at all??

Slow cranking can be caused by to much initial advance. Slow crank or no cranking can be caused by a tired starter motor (exhaust heat will do that).

Normal cranking would mostlikely be vapor lock. Check to see where/how your fuel line is routed from the fuel pump to the carb.

Sounds like it's flooded. Your float may need adjustment, or the seat replaced. Try not using any throttle when you restart, and have someone hold open the butterfly plates on the carb as you crank. If it's flooded, this will clear it. Why when it hot? because after five hours, any gas that has leaked from the float bowl has evaporated. The carb is now dry and ready for the correct mixture to come down the pike. When you shut down, the float bowl is full, from being pumped up, and continues to dribble into the carb and down the manifold. Until this is cleared away, she won't fire. My old Holley made a chirping sound as it leak squirts of fuel,..I could actually hera it leaking and flooding, untill the float was empty.

you probably need to decide if its spark or fuel related, remove the air cleaner, look down the carb is it wetter than all get out?if so its flooding, you'll smell unburned fuel too,if not actuate the throttle,do you see a squirt of gas? if not prime it,if it runs for a brief moment then you have a fuel prob,if all looks ok check for spark, unplug a sparkplug wire and put a plug in the boot, lay it against the head/block and crank,do you see a spark? if not tada!! hope this at least helps a little......PRO...

Yes, it has been flooding, and I've tried holding the air door open when it was cranking, but it did nothing. Sometimes it will turn over for a second and then die. I looked at it again, and it does crank a little slower when warm.

Okay, I had the exact same problem with my 440 Challenger. Now it starts right away ALL OF THE TIME! If you are running the Mopar Electronic Distributor, I've heard that they have weak magnets and therefore adjusted my pickup coil to about .005 (was about .012. Since then the thing fires up right away every time... Hope this helps, it helped me and I got this information for this board!

Do you have EGR, if so it migh be hanging up. We recently fixed an "unfixable" Aspen with a /6 that we bought for $100 because it wouldn't stay running, $46 later and a new EGR valve and it runs great. You can check that by removing the vacuum line from the egr and seeing what happens. cruzerjd

After you get the first chugs, then you have to hit the gas to keep it goin. Better than fussing, rebuild your carb so it doesn't leak! Now that you've drained your battery, get it charged, and wait a count of two to charge up the coil before turning the key...
Also, don't keep the starter motor turning over too long at one shot, this will damage it.

No EGR here (its a '70 you know)
I think the motor might be the problem, but i'm not sure, and I don't have an extra to try ethier.
