Default Guess my 1/4 Mile Time....

Thanks to everybodies input I finally got my 70 Challenger fired up.... I plan on running it at test and tune next week at the local drag strip.... but what will it run.....

CONSTANT: Street Car...70 Challenger 3700 LBS w/ me in it. Hemi 4 speed and a 8.75 suregrip w/ 4.10 gears.... Mickey Thompson ET Streets w/ 28X11.5 on rears.... 440 plus .040 ..... Mopar Performance Headers 1 5/8"... Edelbrock Performer RPM w/Holley 850 DP...Holley Blue pump...Super Stock Springs... Pinion Snubber...

OLD: This is what it used to have in it... Stock 440 camshaft (PAW) approx. 8:1 compression, MP Electronic ignition, 516 heads and stock valve train... In Colorado at 5900 ft above sea level car ran 14.15 in 1/4 mile last year.... lost approx. a full second from Arizona to Colorado (moved here)which as I understand it is not that uncommon...(Superchargers do wonders up here)

NEW: Here's what I've changed.... 906 ported / milled .080 thousandths off heads w/2.14 and 1.81 valves...MP Steel shim head gaskets.... Blocked Heat tranfer on intake manifold...New Hughes valve springs and Harland Sharp Roller Rockers (1.5 ratio)... Hughes HE3038BL hydraulic cam (.515 lift intake / .536 exhaust and 230/238 duration @ .050)... Fluid Damper... MSD 6AL / Pro Billet distributor... K & N Forced air induction system... Line Locks...

It will now run what???? Anybody... I'm curious as well... I'll let everybody know next week (assuming it doesn't rain again)

I would say around 13.2 - 13.4, basing a lot on your previous times/combo.

Why ask here?
A few sites with ET Calculators and some other stuff:

http://www.tvwdra.org/programs/hp.htm http://www.sccoa.com/faq/dragetcalculator.html http://racenet.net/software/software.htm http://www.timmcamis.com/calculators.html http://www.kingofthestreetdragracing...twaretools.htm

This way when the calc says the car should run in the mid 11's and the best your get is a 13.8, you can be mad at the cheap calcualtor instead of the car ...

My cousin has about the same set up in his 73 Challenger. His suspension is not set up as well as it could, and he runs radials. Last run (at close to sea-level) was a 12.89@110. Figure .30 for your traction........I'd say you could run a mid to high 12.xx run.

GOOD LUCK!

Default * Finally Ran at Bandimere Dragstrip

Okay, car is buttoned up and off to the dragstrip last Saturday... I wasn't sure what to expect... Haven't tuned car other than set timing to 38 degrees total..... I get car together and I can't get second gear (Hemi 4 speed) at high RPM's... shifts fine for normal driving... So I run at the strip anyways and I was surprised... I went from 1st to 3rd to 4th on my runs.... Car ran an uncorrected 13.48 at 5900 ft above sea level w/ 9:1 motor... My 60 ft times dropped to a 1.84 from a 1.94 last year and I went from 96 MPH to 103 MPH... and I don't even have second gear!.... I think it's even got more in her.... Next I tried launching in second gear... then go to 3rd and 4th.....The car came out of the hole with both tires smokin and they kept smoking for about 1000 ft..... Wow that's never happened to me before I had to get out of it so I don't know what it would have run.... Anyways the car still went 3 rounds of Bracket Racing shifting from 1st to 3rd to 4th... Of course I'll have to pull the tranny but it sure was fun.... Thanks for everybodies input....

Wow, those are some impressive numbers considering the altitude and 2nd gear problem. So now what do you suppose is with the tranny? I've been having lots of trouble shifting my tranny at high rpm too. Feels like it shifts, but is just short of going into gear. I went all thu the trans, so I wander if the clutch is not disengaging cleanly. If you figure it out, Let us know.
