Default street stock

I am starting a car for a local street stock class. rules are 360 max
stock exaust stock intake hyd cam 3400lbs. I am building a 318 for now a 360 later. I have a 4bbl intake for a quad jet. I need
to know what is a safe rpm for stock rods? what kind of piston clearnce also? i have always messed with chevy befor so all this is new to me. the track is 1/2mi dirt long straights tight corners.
our chevy runs a 5.30 gear at 5700rpm. the car I 'm running will be a c body. I am the only mopar so I will have to come here for
advice.

Stock rods are fine for a street stock application once resized and fitted with new rod bolts. If you're going to build a 318, why not just get a 360 core and start with that? The additional torque will be worth the change.

I have two 360's built for street stock racing. One's a hydraulic cam KB zero deck pistons 10-1 or so engine and the other was built with a solid cam and more compression. Both use J heads with 2.02/1.60 valves. I don't think that's necessary to be competitive, though. The hydraulic cammed 360 uses a 284/484 purple shaft and is very competitive and very durable. I also have Chevy street stock stuff and that 360 will run all day with my 406 with long rods, 12-1 compression, solid cam and double hump heads.

Biggrin 360 motor

If possible bo start with the 360. If not then turn lots of rpm with the 318. I ran a stock rod stock crank 360 with heavy high compression pistons and always turned 7,000 rpm every race. the 318 you could turn more than that easy. With a 3400 lb car you would be much better off with the 360.
You can do well with a mopar just don't try calling the chevy places to get parts or advice!

Yeah, Rich33 has 2 awesome 360's. And is a really nice guy too. He is letting me us his Hydraulic cammed back up motor all year long. It is always nice to hear, look at them dodges go, or ANOTHER dodge 1 - 2 night.

so what do you guys use for ignition on those high revving motors. I am having problems with my 360 and I wonder if my valve springs might be going bad after 15 nights.
