Maybe a loose ground?

A loose ground, faulty regulator, loose ALT meter connections, and/or dirty/corroded firewall connections.

If one or more diodes in the alt are/
are going bad you will get eriatic dc voltages. You can use a simple dc volt meter to determine this. Or exchange the alt. GOOD LUCK. |

We had that problem on our Duster,Cured it by running a hefty ground right to the alternator
