Question alumunim radiator

:I have to replace my current rad. I have a 68 charger 440 bored .030 9:1 comp. 3:55 gears 284 cam automatic. I was thinking about one of those `BE COOL' universal rad. It has a single row 1 1/4" core. Has any used one? Is it big enough for a big block? Or would you go with a paddock original 4 core copper brass rad. I like the style of aluminum ,but I don't want to spend $500+ for the custom aluminum models. Any help is greatly appreciated THANKS.

Default radiators: my two cents worth.

sundrop,
I've tried a couple of different radiator configurations in my 68 Charger, including a 4-row copper/brass "Desert Cooler" from an outfit in L.A. In short, I've found my current config. works the best:

• Howe universal 31"x19" aluminum radiator, dual 1" tubes, w/Chrysler/Ford inlet and outlet configuration
• 180 degree Robertshaw (or Stant) hi-flow thermostat (there's a BIG difference between a typical cheap-o replacement 'stat and a good quality hi-flow one)
• Dual 13" Spal high performance electric fans (OEM quality/reliability/excellent construction), 3,420 combined CFM (they really SUCK)
• Fans are thermostatically controlled to activate at 185 degrees and deactivate at 170 degrees

The Howe rad. cost me $199 from Summit Racing about three years ago. It just fit between the framerails, with about 1/8" clearance on each side! Like, you can't go with much more radiator than that!

If you go with an engine driven fan, make sure to utilize a good fitting shroud. Check out Vintage Air's website, they've got universal shrouds.
Good l
