Smile MP Hemi kickdown lever

Can anyone tell me about the Hemi kickdown lever in the MP catalog?

What does it do? Does it affect downshifts and upshifts?

I hear a lot about different kickdown levers in some of the posts, but don't understand just what they do.

Thanks, Joe

The Hemi kickdown lever should be a 5 to 1 ratio lever. It applies the second gear band. There are different ratios to vary the clamping force of the band. Some people don't have any slippage problems with the lower ratio bands, and the lower the ratio, the faster the band will apply. You will have to take out the trans. to install the lever.

IMHO the best levers to use are the 3.8 or the 4.2 as the 5.0 build in even MORE overlap into a tranny that has enough trouble with this problem. The earlier TF's usually had a 3.8 while the later models use a 2.9.

Cool

Thanks for the replies, would the 3.8 or 4.2 be a stock 727 lever?

It depends on the year but it is stamped into the side of the lever. The 4.2 I have seen in AMC Torque Command units while the 3.8 is a common six cylinder and early V-8 lever.
