Default 75 C-body axles?

While at the boneyard today, i saw a 75 Imperial with a big block [couldnt tell which] and it had a discbrake rear end. There are 4 bolts behind the backing plate, so the axle shafts are connected to the flange of the housing. I'm curious if anyone can tell me what rearend i was looking at. I didnt count the bolt number on the diff plate, but the case was large i'm thinking d60 or 9 1/4.

I'm just really curious because the axle has discs with calipers and rotors, and it'll probably still be there tomorrow.

it should be a 9 1/4 but to be sure just count the bolts 12=9 1/4 and i think 10=9 3/4

I'm guessing 12 bolts --> 9 1/4. So is this axle desirable? I figure it's a non-clip axle, big ring gear, discs, ... if not in a street car at least a 4x4!

Did those Imperials have the wacky 4x5 bolt pattern like the earlier ones did?

as far as the axle being desireable, it depends its very wide so it limits its useage, the 9 1/4 is a c-clip design. alot of the people i know take them and use the disc brake set up on a 8 3/4. i'm not sure what it takes but it has been done.

moparer- i'm pretty sure its a 4 1/2 bp after 72 or 73 thats what they went to. same as the newyorker and newport underpinings

It is a 9 1/4, it is a c clip rear, it has 4 1/2 bolt circle , the imperials went to the 4 1/2 bc for the 74 MY. Why you would want one is beyond me, except maybe for the gee whiz factor. Rotors for those things are made of unobtanium.
