I need a transmission mount / crossmember for my 73 Duster.
What ones will fit? I am not really concerned about it being a spool mount or a pad type mount for the transmission since I can go either way on that part. I need to know what crossmembers will fit the body (frame) Thanks in advance for any information I receive. Dan |

Any '73 or later Dart, Duster, or Valiant,or for that matter, any '67 or later A-body really. In my opinion, if your going to have to look for a member, I'd not bother with any of the older stuff, I'd go straight for the '73 up pieces as they do have the spool mounts which are more reliable than the old biscuit mounts. Just keep in mind that the k-member is engine family specific.

Stay away from a 67 K. These have the stud type pittman arm and they are not worth the effort. When you find the K you want, get all of the stuff with it...strut rods, lower control arms, etc. It will make your life a lot easier.

Thanks for the comments concerning the "K" member. However, I was looking specifically for Transmission crossmember information.
I have a 73 Duster that already has a good spool mount "K" member and Large bolt pattern Disc brakes. I just need to know what Transmission crossmembers will fit in my duster. Will a crossmember from an "E", "C","F" or "B" body fit? or does it have to be from an "A" body? Thanks again Dan |

Sorry, mis-read that one. That's a good question, in my recolection they all seem the same in appearance. Personally, I'd just just go and get one out of another A-car, it's not like they're rare or anything. I'd still shoot for a spool mount though as just like the engine mounts, they're more reliable than the older biscuit style.

It will have to be an a-body only item. You might be able to get a b or e-body crossmember and redrill the holes and/or modify it to work but it will not bolt-on. I do not know if this will work though. You will have to measure them yourself to see if you can sufficiently modify it for your car.

What happened to the original trans crossmember that it needs replacing? Did road salt do it in, or a major accident? Just curious, 'cause I have a '73 Duster and the one in my car is as solid as the day it left the factory.

The crossmember was gone when I got the car.
I picked this thing up about 120 miles away from home. It was a small block 4 speed car and was advertised as having superstock springs, fiberglass front fenders, fuel cell, frame tied, 4:56 suregrip, new M/T slicks on centerline rims, new plum crazy paint, etc, etc, etc. Well, It did have most all as advertised when I went to lok at it. I told the guy that I would take it less engine and transmission because I was planning on putting in a big block and automatic.. The guy said all he wanted from it was the engine and trans. When I got it home a couple of weeks later, I find the entire brake pedal assembly missing. He had taken it because he was installing the 4 speed and engine in an early dart and needed the clutch pedal assembly. I also find out that he kept the crossmember and the driveshaft. Like I said it is over 120 miles from home and not really worth the hassel of driving that far just to kick his behind and get the parts. So,, I have this engine and transmission setting on the stand ready to go in as soon as I get my crossmember. Guess I'll get out to the local yard and dig me up one. Dan |
