Unhappy 68 440 help.

My wife has a 68 300 vert, 440 non HP , all unrebuilt stock.

Since June 2001 it has had bouts with, not idling, won't rev up, stalls in gear.

I have replaced:

Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
fuel pump
fuel filter
ignition coil
ballast resistor
Installed MP electronic distributor conversion kit
rewired coil and rest of igntion.

Problem is getting worse, was once a week, every 100 miles or so, then once a day, know once every 15 minutes .

run a compression test on it to make sure you don`t have a burnt valve....
If thats good I would look into the carb.
Good luck

Are you sure you are getting good fuel flow/pressure to the carb? I had a similar problem & I had a plugged fuel line & my tank was full of crap..If your tank & lines are in bad shape, chances are your carb will need to be rebuilt as well.

Ted,
It's completely stock, never been opened up inside?

While a compression test is definitely in order, and it could also possibly be a burnt valve, my money is on the timing chain. Chrysler utilized cheap, sleazy nylon-coated timing chain gears that become brittle and crack with age. As the outer nylon gear teeth chip and fall off the sprockets, the chain developes quite a lot of slack in it, making for all sorts of drivability problems. Where do the nylon "chips" go? You guessed it, right down into the oil pan sump.

If the original timing chain assembly is still in the motor, REPLACE IT, regardless of condition.

Good luck
