Unhappy 68 440 help

My wife has a 68 300 vert, 440 non HP , all unrebuilt stock.

Since June 2001 it has had bouts with, not idling, won't rev up, stalls in gear.

I have replaced:

Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
fuel pump
fuel filter
ignition coil
ballast resistor
Installed MP electronic distributor conversion kit
rewired coil and rest of igntion.

Problem is getting worse, was once a week, every 100 miles or so, then once a day, know once every 15 minutes .

Post Maybe - Things to Check.

Have you tried having the Carb rebuilt, or try another one. Also have you checked the timing?

I would check for a vacuum leak , a car that mature could have some pretty crusty rubber hidden away somewhere.

Does it run/drive perfect for 15 minutes, then starts acting up ? If it starts acting up (say, won't idle) and you shut it down, then re-start, is it OK for another 15 minutes ? While it is running OK, how does it drive ? Any new low speed surging that wasn't there before ?

Do you have a vacuum gauge ? I'm curious what kind of vacuum you're pulling while it is running OK, as well as when it starts up with the idle problem.

This problem could be heat related. How is the exhaust manifold heat control valve ? Is it working freely ? Maybe a restricted exhaust system ?

Sorry to throw so many ideas out there, but I'm kind of thinking out loud.

it has about 20 vacum at idle. I yesterday replaced the carb with a universal holley 600 . Carb is running much better. Put 125 miles on today and ran close to perfect.
