Powerdyne is about the only supercharger close to $2500. I would bore the engine .060 over, have it balanced with quality rods and forged pistons, and install a performance balancer and chain instead. You'll probably pick up 40hp (about what the Powerdyne delivers), and know you're engine is solid. Any supercharger is high risk on a stock engine.

I would use a Vortech Supercharger, runs abour 3K. You should definitly beef up the bottom end tho, and you will get more power than with the powerdyne. If you do go with the powerdyne, you should get a 7-rib pulley so u can ACTUALLY produce 6-psi instead of the 4.5 that most ppl get from belt slippage

I believe Powerdyne is supplying a second tensioner now, which alleviates most of the belt slippage. A 7 or 8 rib pulley/belt is a good idea anyway.
Consider also, with any kit you will have to buy guages, and may have to flash the PCM to get everything right. Always more expensive than it first seems. |

Thanks for the info guys...
I know that the powerdyne dose not require oil lines or oil reservoir. Where the Vortec dose... Dose the Vortec out perform that much more then the Powerdyne ? |

Vortech may be able to supply more air to the TB, but Powerdyne runs cooler (no hot oil being plumbed from the motor) delivering a cooler, denser air charge, so I think that it's a wash.
You are going to spend at least $5,000 Canadian to get a S/C installed with the associated guages, fuel pumps and PCM, so you may want to consider building the engine up instead. Is your D still under warranty? If so, a S/C is out if you ever want to get anything repaired by DC. |

The Vortech is capable of higher boost, and goes to 8psi on the stock Durango kit. The stock Powerdyne kit is limited to 6psi.
I would say that if you ran over 6psi on a stock engine, you have about a 90% chance of breaking something. The most obvious is the belly pan gasket, but others have blown head gaskets, shattered pistons, and destroyed bearings. Therefore, the Vortech is a risky selection on a stock engine. If you beef up the bottom end (pistons, rods and balanced), then the Vortech is the better selection. |
