Intake
Now, in setting up my Doomsday Dart, I am going for the most low end grunt and power that I can muster from my combo. In Colorado's thin air, will it make a difference which intake I use? I am referring to dual and single plane. But I want some driveability too. It won't be strictly a race car. I was thinking about the Edelbrock Performer dual plane intake, topped by a 650
cfm Holley. How's that sound, everybody? Any input is appreciated. |

No No No, the performer has the small port size window for the 318.

My 340 is a '69, and according to calculations that I found in the Auto Math Handbook, .030" over puts me up to 344 cubes and 10.7:1. The cam I want is 276 intake and 286 exhaust. The fellow at Comp Cams recommended the Air Gap intake. Any good?

The Performer RPM or RPM air gap will match your combination better than the standard Performer which is only good for about 5,000 RPM. Your cam and compression should be making peak power closer to 6,000+ RPM.
The Performer RPM air gap runs cooler than the Performer RPM so it should make more power, but if you plan to drive in the winter the standard Performer RPM should warm up faster. I would use a vacuum secondary carb on a street/strip car unless you have a high stall torque converter or alot of gear. If you don't need a choke (no winter driving) look at the Holley 750 pro-series vacuum secondary carb with annular discharge boosters. These carbs are really responsive at this altitude, I'm running a simular pro-series 1,000+ cfm carb on my 451 stroker engine and it kicks butt over the old 850 DP carb I had on before it. |

RPM AIR GAP ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!!
You want performance and driveability, GET THE AIR GAP! I got one, Majorly impressed! This intake is awesome! Worth 235!!!!!

This here 1965 Dodge Dart 270 will never see snow or precipitation of any kind when it is finally done. But yes, I am considering the Performer RPM intake. What range does the Air Gap operate at? I need all of my power at the bottom, since I am going to be the local Mopar stoplight racing hero. Is it good for the bottom end?

All the mags have reported that it holds bottom torque like a dual plane should. The best part is when you get up top. It screams like a single plane. So I thought I'd give one a try. The mags didnt lie. WOW.
I have run single plane intakes for years on my small blocks. Lets face it, they scream! Nothing like a single plane intake for 5000+ rpm runs. The trouble was driving on the street. They were kind of lacking in the torque dept. But we all delt with it. The Performer didnt have what the Torker or Victor could dish out. The "Performer RPM" has filled the void! It has a listed RPM range of 1500- 6500 rpm's. (Yes, it'll do fine higher to.) I'm running the Air-gap now with the Edel. heads. Fine combo right out of the box. I bolted it to a create short block from Ma MoPar. Hooker super comps @ 1 3/4 and a 4.10 rear. Very |

Intakes, Intakes, and More Intakes
Well, all things considered, the RPM Air Gap sounds like the way to go for my little monster. I will get one and see if all the hype is just that or not.

If your street bound, the standard RPM (Water heated version) would be better. Faster warm up times. Don't fret.

I think Mopar Muscle did an intake comparison a few months ago and the RPM air Gap blow away all the other intakes, it made as much or more low end torque as the Performer, and mad as much top end power as the Torquer single plane, although it looks like the single may have made a slight bit more power right at the max RPM. The mid range of the intake kicked everyones butt
