Unhappy small block intake doesn't fit

I purchased a used weiand 7507 intake. I tried to put it on a 79 360 and it didn't fit. there is to much gap between the heads and no way will it seal. I spoke to weiand and they said that the intake should fit and was built in 1979. Someone else said that if was for an early 273 or 318la (pre 1966) that it wouldn't . The heads have not been altered and the intake doesn't appear to have been altered. The original cast 4bbl intake still fits fine. What gives?

To clear somthing up you typed, the 273 is an "LA" engine. Like the 340-360.
The 318 came in 2 versions. An "A" and "LA" The 2 are disimailar. You can not bolt on a "LA" intake to a "A" engine. Just won't happen.
The intake in question will bolt on an "LA" engine. 273, 318, 340 and 360.
If the intake was purchased used, it could have been milled to fit a milled set off heads.
Double up on gaskets.

just a side note. the intake will not bolt up to a pre '66 273. The angle on the intake bolts are different. '66 and up LA'S are the same. Try running the fel pro ultra seals for a small block. They are thicker than the stock composite gaskets.

You may have to pull the dowel pins located at each end of the block(distributor and water pump side) otherwise if the intake is not drilled for these pins,it will sit up off of the engine.
