What would you guess it runs...?
Hey guys! Just thought I would let you in on my "skunk works" and see if you could do some guesstimating for me.
I got a 69' Dart Swinger (originally a 273/904...8 3/4) that has a 88' 318, 302' heads, mildly ported, gasket matched, and bowls cleaned up. Stock Valves, Crane cams Valve springs, High volume Melling oil pump, the block was heads were decked .030, moly rings, and........a crane cams hyd. roller split dur. 284/292 .513 int. .528 exh. 112 center cam, cloyes true roller timing chain, edelbrock Air gap intake gasket matched to the gaskets and heads, edelbrock mech. sec. 750 carb,......Davis Unified Ignition HEI ignition ( aboslutely awesome! ) and Heddman Cerama coated hedders. B&M shift Kit'd 904 with stock 1600 stall.........3.55 SG and Kelly Charger 235-60-14's on back with 195-70-14 on front. Haven't got around to putting on the pinion snubber and S/S leaf springs yet, and still saving for a TCI 2800 stall for my 904. Reason I ask is........I ran a 93' LT1 Z28 the other day, (totally amazed me) but I got him a car length outta the hole and 2 1/2 by the end. Then I raced his buddy. He has a 79' pontiac firebird with a 406, weiand stealth intake...race demon 650......headers......turbo 400........shift kit in the turbo 400.......3.73 gears limited slip, with some sticky hoosiers and he got me a 1/2 car on the launch and 2 lengths by the end. I am a 4780 ft. altitude, it was a 80 degree day 30% humidity.....and we raced on a old county back road. Haven't got a chance to get to the strip (closest one is 150 miles). So let me know what you think I am capable of. Hope to have some photos on soon. Please reply. Swinger321 |

I would say low 14's is close, but with a nice stall converter and some sticky tires I would say mid 13's would be no problem. That 750 carb might be a little much for such a small engine. My brother-in-law has a mild 360(MP 280/474 cam,9.5:1 comp, 2.02 stock heads, RPM intake, and a box stock 650 double pumper) and he has run a 12.80 with a 3500 GER converter and way to deep for the 1/4 mile and 26" tall tires, 4.56 gears.

Stock pistons and compression or aftermarket? With stock bottom end i would say 14.8-15.2. With street aftermarket bottom a 14.3-14.8. A '93 Z was not that fast/powerful of a car. The firebirds bottom end with the converter, gears and tires is what got you out the hole and the breathing capability of the 406 on top end that was tuned in right was what got it ia the top. Most of the boner stock cramaros from about '88-'93 will turn only about a 15.4-15.9 in the 1/4 depending on the circumstances.
