Default Rod & jet combo on s/b w/ 750 carter

Hey all;

I was wondering who's sporting a 360 with a 292/.509 purple stick and Edelbrock RPM package up top?
Pistons are .010 + deck , .054 fel-pro head gasket, RPM heads and intake w/ 750 carter.

Problem is the car runs great when on the throttle or Wide open Throttle and seems to load up when in cruise. It was an out of the box jetting. Changed the rod to a 16-691, .076-.055. Thicker from the stock rod size of .071-.047. (Rich? I thought it was until...)

With ethier rod set in, it will on occasionally backfire. (Lean?)
Yes, tomorrow I will check for vacum leaks. To late now, newborn next door.

The acelerator pump is in the center hole and will accel fine weather hit hard or soft. Choke is wide open.
Sooo, whatcha runnin in the carb?
Thanks all
One weird thing about this carb that I've never seen before. On the choke plate theres a spring load rivit like thing that runs through to the otherside of the choke plate. There are 3 holes to allow air to pass through. The holes look like a bio-hazzard symbol.
Does anybody have an idea what this is for? I know of the trick to drill a small hole in the throttle blades of a Holley to help with idle. Same deal?

Rumblefish. Man, you could have this problem solved if you bought my kits. Just joking. Sounds like it may be a combination of things. The first thing to try would be to change the rod springs, the spring may be to strong and holds the rod at the rich position during cruise. I used alot richer jetting on my 360, which has a smaller stick. I had a considerable amount of trouble tuning the edelbrock to the engine. Got a 4150 Holley and it runs alot better. It may be that there isn't enough adjustment for your set-up. Good Luck.
