Default Ugly as sin...

You have got to be kidding me.

http://www.conceptcar.co.uk/news/det...1/super8.shtml

This may be old news to some of you, I'm sure I'm not the first to have seen it, but I mean, seriously. UGLY. What is the matter with new car designers? Do they sit around and think "People want spearmint and terra cotta colored interiors, and... let's see.... a top that looks more at home on a Ford Panel Wagon... oh, and let's make the glass so specialized as to be unreplaceable", or is this the product of a thousand focus groups gone wrong?

Thumbs up

That is a good question, Frankendart. While the goofy green neon stripes or whatever on the side, as well as the bizarro electric shaver styling of the front end is bad enough, what really makes me wonder, that there wasn't just ONE person in the styling department, who realized that windshield looked exactly like a competitor's 43 year old product? Yes, this car irks me more than even remembering they imported Simcas once upon a time and put Pentastars on them. Thank Goodness, I think they won't produce the Super 8, but then again, the Crossfire with it's chopped off butt, isn't exactly a better choice. Let's just hope and pray that someone in management is hearing the good comments on the 300-H roadster and especially, the new Charger. If they don't build one of these cars, and give us the ugly ducklings Super8/Crossfire instead, it would be a tragic error.
An Aztec/Edsel kind of error, if you know what I mean?

Stoga, I remember the Simca
A neighbor had one back in the early 70's. I shudder to remember it. As I recall it was one of the first vehilces I ever encountered with a transverse engine and FWD. Not a good thing
He seemed to like it though. He was an electrical engineer, you know, short sleeve white shirt, glasses, flat top hair cut, pocket protector...
I hope it doesn't take another 30 years to forget Simcas again!!

Biggrin When You're Right, You're Right

It is definitely UGLY, I am sure glad they never built a Cuda to look like that or I would be driving a Lancer or Valiant or somthing like that. It would be a much better looking car.

It's hard to believe it but the new Daimler design team seems to be serious about this new design direction. They seem to be determined to deep six Chrysler.

I believe Maxwedge said that BOB Lutz took part of the old Chrysler design team to GM. You know, the team that came up the original Power Wagen, the Alantis, and possibly the Charger concept.

I've noticed that. All of the latest designs I have seen aren't exactly designs I would love to see in my truck. Wonder if there isn't a bit of secret 'fugly car' collaboration going on

Youre right about the Bob Lutz thing ! He's taking Pontiac into the type of stuff Mopar was doing. Such as the viper & prowler. They have a new concept car (cant remember the name ) but they built this thing in 15 weeks ! Does that sound familiar ?? And by the way, this car they built is nothing short of gorgeous ! There is not one bad styling flaw on the whole car, no straight edge lines, no 50's roofs, just sexy flowing sheetmetal ! It just looks like it oughta have a pentastar on it somewhere. We definetly lost something with Mr. Lutz !

Bryant, would that be the Pontiac Solstice (?spelling?) you were refering to?

Lutz' design team put it together in 15 weeks, it's a two seater about the size of a Miata, and a 400+ HP V8. I think it has 19" wheels in front, and 20" in back!!!

By the way, while DC is screwing around with this Super 8 thing, Pontiac also has an All wheel drive, LT1 V8 powered Gran Prix in development.

Has anyone got any updated info on the 5.7L Hemi Intrepids? What's the due date? Or is DC planing to crush that, too. Like they did with the Charger?

"Grab life by the horns"??
Someone needs to grab the designers by the balls and rip them off because these guys must be gay to design a car that looks this bad.

I think the fellows who designed this car went to design school with the same idiots who designed the Aztec.
Am I the only one who sees that these designers watched way to much Transformers on TV as kids? Do the majority of the new designs coming out from the factory's not look like they are all supposed to be able to transform themselves into something else. My suspicions were confirmed about my theory when Gm first released the Aztec.....then the Avalanche.....they DO transform into something else.

Pontiac Solstice is powered by a supercharged 2.2 litre 4 banger (Ecotec?), apparently it will be good for 240 hp and 225 lb-ft o' torque.

or

It's quite the exercise in mix and match parts.

Rear-drive, two-seat convertible that
punches nearly 240-hp for only $20K.
Sounds like a pretty good combination.

I could do without the 19" and 20" rims.
Give me a nice set of 17" all around, so
I can rotate tires and buy them cheap.
(20" rims must make for a bumpy ride.)

Not to mention, slow y'all down a bit. 16" or 17" would be perfect.
