Burned up Dodge

Last week my Dodge Lancer caught itself on fire and then started itself and drove away into a wall. It was amusing, except this was my commuter car to work at 55 miles each way. Car is toast. So I had to find another car quick and I found a nice Buick LeSabre. Transmission went in a week. Here's the problem. The one in the car has a four wire switch near the bell housing and the junkyard tranny I bought only has a three wire. Can I use this tranny and what will I be losing without the fourth wire. I was going to buy new but don't have the $1200 for the exact one. Anybody know?
