Unhappy magnum/non-magnum push-rod question:

Hey again everybody. Just wondering if there would be and benefit or harm to my motor if I were to use 89-91 hydraulic pushrods in my 88´ 318. The 89-91´s are .04 longer than the 88´ push rods and......the 89-91´s have oil holes in them where as the 88´s are solid.

Reason being.......I have a new Crane Cams Hydraulic roller cam (specs: 284/292 .513/.528 112 center) and new Autozone (cheapies) solid ball end pushrods and new Melling Hydraulic roller lifters, and they will not pump up or something. There is a never ending tapping.
I pulled the valve covers and removed the rockers and indiviually pushed on each pushrod and a few have a springyness to them the others are fine. I am running 20 psi oil pressure at idle, and 45 at 2000 rpm., so i don´t see what the deal is.

I was just wondering if I used 89-91 pushrods with the hole in them will this solve my lifter pump up problem?

Hope someone can help me out, I don´t wanna wipe out a lifter seeings how they´re 12.95 each! 220 for a set!
Thanks for your time.

Those pushrods might not let the lifter "show" its oil port, not letting any oil in to pump them up. Maybe pull the lifters out and pump/prime them up in oil before installing them. May have to go with shorter pushrods. I am suprised Crane didnt mention a smaller base circle on that cam. Course, if they did you still would need longer pushrods..???
