Question 302´swirl port heads (why are they so popular?

I don´t get it and I was wondering if someone could let me in on this. I know where a few sets are, and they are cheap! are they worthwhile to port or do they have good flow or whats up?
thanks for any replies.

they have efficient combustion chambers that are heart shaped, allowing more atomization of air and fuel and giving a faster burn. they flow better than "J" heads with 1.88/1.60 valves in them.

there cheap, easy bolt on, very accessible, efficient, make more power w/less valve diameter, and they raise the compression when put on a 360 (they have 58 cc chambers). also MP says the HOME (that means you and me) porter can expect up to 50hp and more with professional work.

Goldduster, do you have, or can you obtain, a set of flow numbers for the 302 heads with porting and oversize valves? I have been trying to come up with some with no luck, despite the talk about them all the time. It would help in determining the specs for the cam to use with them.
I plan to put a set on a 360 as curious mentioned, for:
the swirl and quench for excellent, fast combustion, using less ignition timing
higher compression
moderate rpm range, but a boatload of torque from the high velocity of the smaller ports

thats a chart for a ported 974? head not the 302 casting.

Anyone ever found any flow numbers for the 302 castings?
I put a set on a 360 in my motorhome and it made a difference downlow, well and up high also but up high it lost but this is a motorhome and you don't need 5000 + rpm

I've been thinking, about doing some work, on my 318. It's running real good, for now. Does anybody, know what my (stock) 1969 dodge charger heads, have ...valves, sizes...etc. I've put a performer 318-360, manifold, edelbrock 1406, carb, electronic ign. and run at 12deg, adv. Runs great, but I'm putting together ideas, for future. Thanx DON
