Set mine on 16 thousandths, works just fine, but don't use a feeler gauge, always use brass shim stock, or something that is not metal, will ground out the eye and kill it, at least thats is what I was told. Thanks Dave Made a mistake, I must have had brain fade, thought it was points, duh, set on .008 and you will bw alright.

Cool

I've always heard around .008". Use a brass feeler gauge, available in most automotive stores.

When I got mine it was already preset to .008, however, you definitely want to doublecheck it; besides, it's easy enough to do. Brass feeler guage was $2 I think at the local parts store.

Brass is used because it's non-magnetic. If you have access to a vacuum pump check the gap with vacuum applied to the vacuum advance unit, sometimes the gap will change when the advance plate in the distributor is moved.

Question Wide Air Gap?

I remember reading a obscure reference in the MP News about a wider air gap making more HP. Has anyone tried running a wider air gap (>.008")? Any theories on why it would make more HP?
