I pulled the the after-market (I think TRW or Dynagear) timing chain and sprockets' set from my mild prep'ed 318 (360 heads, purple cam, headers ...) and noticed that the crank notch on the crank sproket did not match up to a stock crank sprocket I had laying around.
With the cam sprocket on top and the dots aligned, the notch on the stock crank sprocket is at the 2 o'clock position. Whereas, on the after-market sprocket, the notch is at 11 o'clock. There are two additional notches marked "+4°" and "-4°"(I used the one in the middle). If the engine hadn't been running before I took these timing gears off, I would have thought I had the wrong sprocket. Two local machine shops have never seen this before. One said to use the single-notch stock pieces and the other said if it ran before, to throw the after-market pieces back in. Has anyone else come across this? And what do you recommen |

I don't know about the sprockets, but if you want to make sure the cam is installed correctly, then I recommend degreeing it in.
