Who has a 2wd Durango? Do you like it?
I'm asking because sometime down the road, I would like to get a Durango for towing. But I don't really want a 4 wheel drive, because I don't intend to ever take the vehicle off road, I have a beat up 74 Dodge truck for that duty, if I get the notion.
I'll be using this future Durango mainly for towing a car trailer, with a 5400 lb or larger Imperial, or other Mopars and parts, and to take me and my 3 kids to shows, races and/or swap meets. I plan to do this after I get my Grand Caravan paid off in 3 to 6 years, maybe sooner. I'm just curious how well they tow, and even if you have one with a v6, how it is on power, handling with a large dual axle trailer load, gas mileage and comfort. Any responses much appreciated, thanks! |

3-6 years down the road, the Durango may have a diesel in it so that would be a great tow vehicle.

Im hopeing to get a 2wd for the next D, more for performance than towing, maybe some towing. And DC is releasing a hybrid gas/electric Durango as well just FYI

Mine is a 4x4 but...
I'm also a member of the Durango Owners Club and there are quite a few people on there that tows 27' to 29' trailers with no problem. I would advise against the v6 in the D as the Durango is just too heavy. Also, even though the v6 is in the lit, they are all but non-existent.
In 3-6 years the power train will be completely redone in the D so I would make the decision then, but the 4.7HO or the new 5.7 Hemi that is supposed to go in the D in '04 should tow anything you want. John. |

Just so that you know, the Durango is no longer offered with the V6. You can tow upwards of 7600 lbs with the 2wd D with the 5.9.

A little off the subject, but....
Does the Durango offer a 5 speed manual trans? I've looked at some on dealer lots but all were automatic.

Mine is a 99 and I tow a open car trailer with my 4000lb Grandcherokee on it often and also make long trips with it towing other peoples cars. To this day I have never had a problem what so ever towing. I do feel bad for thoes guys who have the 4 wheel drive only opition. 2wd is much better on the gas millage. If you guys with the 4wd only option want 2wd my friend is selling a 242D out of a 99 durango with 26K on it. It has the 2hi, 4hi Part, 4hi Full, and 4lo opition. I think he wants 400 plus shipping. Mail me if you are interested.
