Default Looking for headers for SB A-body over 1 5/8"

I've got a 69 Dart with a 340, 727 with hurst cable operated shifter and manual valve body, and power steering. The car is a street machine that runs mid 12's a couple times a year.

I've got the typical 1 5/8" primary 3" collector headers (old Cyclone (headman?)). I'd like to put some larger primary headers on. 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 would be the next step up.

Does anybody make a set that would fit my car and not be fenderwall headers? IF they are fenderwall headers, how much goes out and how does it come back in?

This is a Street Machine that I don't want to get too exotic.

Thanks,

Lar

Hedman makes a 1 7/8 X 3 1/2 for your app. Dont know if it is a fenderwell, doesnt seem to say so.

Mancini is now making a small block 2in primary with a 3in collector that is a under chasis header. Sound like it would be fun putting that one in.

The 1 7/8" Hedman header has one pipe on each side that has to go out the fenderwell. I have a set of Hooker Super Comp part number 5204 that is a full under chassis 1 3/4" tube size, and it fits and installs great. The front tube on each side come apart for the easiest header instalation on and A-body I've ever done. I replaced my 1 5/8" Dyno Max (cheapo) headers with the Hookers and I couldn't be happier. It took me 2 hours to get the old headers out and a 1/2 hour to put the new Hookers in. Hooker says they only fit 70-72 A bodies but they fit my 73 Dart Sport with no problems, but you do need manual steering. TTI makes a 1 3/4" A body header but the first 8 inches or so is 1 5/8" tubing, thats why I went with the Hookers.

The problem is that the bigger tube headers need manual steering.

Thanks for the input. Those Hookers sound great. I would love to keep my power steering though. Has anybody tried the TTI ones that are step headers from 1 5/8 to 1 3/4?

I didn't see that Mancini header that is 2" primary and 3" collector. Where did you see this?

I saw the TTI headers out at the nationals and they are a smart design. They are made in such a way that you do not have to drop the centerlink to install them. The driver's side has a removable slip tube that can come out so you can change the starter without having to remove the headers. I thought that they were a neat design and very sturdy with ceramic coating and also larger plates where it connects to the head, so you will have less warpage and less leaks.

Lightbulb I've got the TTI tubes

Yup I've got the TTI tubes on our "A" body, and they fit really well. I've had to ding a couple tubes (steering on passanger side, and torsion bar on drivers side). But other than that I'd highly recommend them.
