Okay, what is the best method for measuring "True" and "Accurate" compression ratios in a motor?

Oh yeah....I've heard you can rent a machine to cut valve reliefs in the pistons tops with heads off. Has anyone ever done this and where can you rent the machine? Thanks Much...

I don't know what is the best method, but in every engine manuls there are good descriptions of how to do it. You have to have some special equipment for the job, but once you have it it ain't very hard, and the specialequipment needed isn't anything fancy either. I have done it with water and a basic injector with scale. I have verified the result with a letter weight scale; one cc of water weighs one gram.
Making valvereliefs is another thing. I made a home built tool for the job; an old head and a pair of valves. I soldered some lathe pieces to the valves, put the head on and 'drilled' the reliefs to the pistons with a hand drill. No very sophisticated, but it worked. |
