I have a '85 Dodge w-350 single rear tire 4x4 with a tired 360.I have found a 360 stamped 8w360ip6242,and a stamp #94100159 just above the passenger side above the oil pan what do these #s indicate?The motor has a windage tray,with a 4027169 crank and 3418645 rods,and 4071051 heads.Any info on this motor would be appreciatied.I want to build a torque motorfor my truck.Looking at flat tops or KB 232 quench tops,157 or 762 cam,roller rockers,Balanced assembly,Edelbrock dual plane and 1407 carb.Will this work or not?Please advise.

CANT FIND EITHER ONE OF THE 1ST TWO NO.S ANYWHERE.BASED ON WINDAGE TRAY YOU MOST LIKELY HAVE A 78 360 HP.KBs ARE PERFECT MAKE SURE YOUR MACHINIST READS THE PAMPHLET THAT COMES WITH THEM AND UNDERSTANDS THE WALL CLEARANCE THEY REC.!!I DONT GET YOUR CAM NO.S BUT THE MP P4452782 IS WHAT I HAD IN MY 3/4T WRECKER, WORKED GREAT, (HAD HEADERS, 4.10,4WD,CARTER) GOT 13.5 UNLOADED AT 65MPH AND 12.5 LOADED AT 65MPH W/ PLENTY OF POWER. DONT GO TOO HIGH OF COMP. BE CAUSE THE HIGHER THE LOAD(WIEGHT)THE MORE PRONE TO DETONATION IT WILL BE, AROUND 9.2:1SHOULD WORK WELL....PRO..

I think any dodge at least a 3/4 running gear will run at least a d60 rear end, probably open.

Most 360s of this application run a theromoquad over the 360. I think it would work.

My 360 has a 2bbl Holley carb-very good setup.

Roy;
Keep compresion @ around 9.0-1. The cam shold not be to big for torque. The stock 4bbl.cam is about as high as you go in the MoPar book. You'll need a little stall for it to.
The Edel. heads have a small cc chamber. @ 65. The stock 360 heads mostly have 70-76 cc heads. There a big differance there. Choose your head to match your piston first.
Those cam #'s youve mentioned, where do they come from?
The 1407 is to large for the intended use for you. It really is huge. The 1400 or 1406 is a much better bet. It will also keep torque up when you floor it. If you need more flow out off it, you can pick up a K&N stub stack for about $35 i think. Or you can take a little time and care with a small fine grinder to the boosters and narrow down the arm and ring. Be carefull not to go to far. The'll distort and bend. And the narrow tube thar carries the gas to the ring on the booster, is close to the surface. They don't sell replacements.
You can get a pic from a book; "Carter carbs" by dave Emanuel from SA Design books.
PS...are u useing headers as well? They'll go a long way in making torque for you.
