I have a 1979 360 2bbl from a truck that I'm tearing down for a rebuild for my Dart Sport. I have removed the heads etc and now Im down to the rods and pistons. The heads had steel head gaskets and now the rod bearings say they are Clevite 77 STD. I measured the bores and they are 4.00" dead on and the pistons are stock dished type. Does anyone have any idea if this engine has been rebuilt before? Any help appreciated. By the way on the #3 an #4 rod bearing on the cap side on both the bearing is wore down to the copper on the bearing. Is the rod journal out of round? THanks!

I would say this eng. has not been rebuilt. Stoke bore is 4inch. The bearins are just worn. Have the machine shop look everything over before you do or buy anything.

Earlier this year, when I took apart the E58 360-4 from my '79 Aspen R/T for a rebuild, the main bearings were full groove types. They had a date code that showed they were the original bearings. The rod bearings were also the original ones. After 115,000 miles, the main journals were fairly smooth, but the rods needed to be reground. The entire crank was cut 10 and 10, and reassembled with Clevite 77 full groove tri-metal bearings.
