A518 Transmission swap
Can someone help me with locating information on doing an automatic "A518" transmission swap into a Dodge "A" body. The car has a 727 at this time.

Big or Small Block?
Lock-up or non-lockup transmission? You will likely have to do some transmission tunnel work, maybe not the the sheetmetal floor board, but to the torsen bar crossmember because it is too narrow for the OD unit on the transmission. The lower transmisssion crossmember will need to be fabricated too. Use a Polyurathane universial GM trans mount at the forward mounting holes in the tail shaft (they are wider than the stock looking holes at the rear of the tail shaft. This GM mount is up closer to the original crossmember location so it will make fabricating the lower crossmember/mount easier. You'll need a shorter driveshaft, and a wiring harness (at least the connector part) for the OD wiring which can be connected to a switch to enable the OD? If you want to connect to a big block, you can get an adaptor from JVX (about $500?) or an Ultra-Bell (requires cutting the original bell off the transmission and bolts up to front of transmission pump (I don't know the cost.) |
