Unhappy Severe Corrosion problem

What would cause battery leads to corrode very, very fast, as in a couple of days after cleaning? This is wild, have never seen this happen b4.

Good question! I don't have an answer to it though, Is it leaking or cracked? I do have a trick to try though. Reclean and put petroleum<sp> jelly around the terminals.

Might try that. Thanks. Anybody else? I still want to know what would cause this, have never come across it before.

How are you cleaning the terminals? It sounds like your battery is leaking or venting. I clean mine yearly if they need it or not and install these little red and green discs under the terminals that have some anti-corrosion stuff on them. I got them at Trak Auto for like a buck and change. I do not like to lube the terminals because The engine compartment/ battery is more difficult to detail. Jelly smears.

If your battery is being overcharged, the battery will vent more and could cause a problem like this.

Sounds like the leaking or venting problem that the other guys were talking about. Just out of curiousity, what material are the terminals made of? I had some brass ones that almost corroded in half the first week.

They look to be copper on the battery end. Might be brass but the car is 12 years old, this just started, so material shouldn't play in. Checked both ends of all 3 cables, one gos to the comp, it's positive, all tight. Problem centers on the positve of course, neg is fine after first cleaning.

It's my new car. Mopar doesn't build anything I even remotley want anymore, needed a new car. I tried all kinds of Mopar names but came up empty. This board is hard to register on as it won't go back to the registartion screen if you need to put in a new name. I wanted to ask something pretty bad and damn well knew nobody here would use this name. THe only Mopar connection it even has is the '70 T/A Challenger and I have never heard any mopar guy call it the Dodge Trans Am or Challenger Trans AM. So I figured it would get me in quick.

Mr. Trans Am, I can't fault you. I almost bought (ordered) a 2000 WS6 TA Convertible
Your right, Mopar dosen't currently make anything I want to buy. I would jump for the Chrysler 300 Hemi Convertible if they ever build it (are you listening Schremp!)
Anyhow, after checking insurance rates on the TransAm, I decided to buy a new house.

I had it put in my mom's name and no crap, used GM insurance. It's not to bad at all. Of course I live in the gunpoint robbery insurance capital so a big number doesn't scare me. It' bs what they charge even for 4drs w/ good driving records here.

Oh, and borrowed a mechanic buddy's battery testerand it tested bad. We theorize that the alternatory was putting out a constant charge, hence corroding the terminals. We think anyway, we'll see.
