Default 318 spewing coolant out of radiator overflow tube

Hi, I have a 70 Dart with a 318, 9.2:1 compression and a 150 hp shot of nitrous. When the engine is under WOT and the nitrous is kicked on coolant spews out the radiator overflow tube. Could this be a weak/bad head gasket?

Thanks for any help.

This is not that hard to diagnose. You can either do a pressure check on your coolant system or a cylinder leak down check. Either one will tell you if you have a cylinder to coolant leak. BTW, if you do have a leak, it will also put coolant into the cylinder when you shut the car down since the coolant is still pressurized, but the cylinder is not. Do you have coolant in your oil? Have you checked your plugs, is there signs of coolant on them? A bad head gasket won't only show up under WOT. One other possible problem could be a weak Rad cap and no thermostat. This could allow the water pump at WOT to push the cap off it's seat and let coolant leak by.

BTW, how did you actually discover this problem? I'm usually not in a position to watch my radiator overflow when I'm at WOT.

Are you using a radiator overflow bottle, or just the overflow out of the radiator?
The radiator overflow is based on pressure, if the radiator cap is defective it could allow excessive radiator fluid overflow, but even a good cap will allow radiator fluid to overflow if there is too much fluid in the radiator resulting in too much pressure (it expands when it gets hot, and is also under operating pressure with the engine running.)
Running the nitrous is going to make the engine block and heads run hotter which will make the fluid overflow more than normal. With a overflow recovery tank (and radiator cap for the recovery tank) when the engine cools the fluid will be pulled back into the radiator. Since this is a closed system, no air will be in the cooling system inside the radiator/engine which provides better rust protection too.
Also, a radiator overflow bottle or tank is required by NHRA to race at the drag strip.
