Default Installing a Steering Coupler Kit

Hi all, I'm a new member here, I didn't find quite what I was looking for in the seach so I will post my question...

I bought a steering coupler kit for my 69 Charger because my steering is real loose. How do I put it on? Do I looosen or take out the steering colum or approach it from the engine bay and remove the steering box?

There might be 2 7/16 nuts under the column holding the whole column to the dash by a strap. Loosen these and you can pull the whole column away from the box. Before you do this, pry the basket apart to seperate the rubber bushing from the housing. you should be able to pull the column out far enough to expose the slides and the clips. Worked for me...

My experience when it comes time for reassembly:

The assembly procedure in the shop manual has you use an alignment jig for
steering column installation.

I use sections of copper pipe sliced and interleaved into one another, then
wrapped around the shaft and up into the bushing plate. Then hose clamp the
whole mess together. This centers and fixes the shaft in the bushing plate while
the plate and column fasteners are tightened.

Without using this method it's some times trial and error. With it, it's always once
and done.

Default Steering coupler

If I could suggest something. Once you have your steering column loosened, remove the pin / or hex set screw that holds the coupler to the splined shaft of the steering gear. Then pull your steering column back. After you pry the lid off the coupler, and before you rebuilt it gut it (the coupler) and clean well with any solvent. Then put the new lid on the coupler (with the coupler in a vise if possible), Carefully bend down the tabs that secure the lid to the coupler a little at a time, going all the way around the coupler. Don't rush take your time. If you try to tighten those damn tabs to much at one time you'll distort the lid and will need to get a new one.
Water pump or slip joint pliers work well. Get the lid to snap on, then pop it off. Put the lid then the red rubber gasket on the steering column shaft first, then rebuild the coupler.I filled the coupler with high fiber wheel bearing grease. Didn't mean to be so long
