Question solid roller cam?

does anyone make a solid lift (not hydraulic) roller cam for a small block pre magnum engine? I cant find one anywhere
Would it be a custom grind thing?

I have to ask. Why would you want a solid roller cam for a SB? There are good hydro rollers on the market, so your question stumps me. Roller cams can be ground more aggressive than regular cams without being solid lift. Just curious.

I believe most cam builders offer mechanical roller cms for SB. The use is not so straight forward, you usually have to do some oiling mods tahat can't be done without disassembling the engine.

Solid roller lifters are lighter than their hydraulic equivalent. The hydraulic advantage - lower operating friction loss in the engine and no adjustments. Disadvantage - they are heavy(er) and have a limited RPM range in comparison to similar solid lifter cams (roller or otherwise). The solid cam profiles will allow higher RPM than the hydraulics. It really depends on what you want to do. As an example - COMP Cams hydraulic roller cams for A engines have a nominal RMP operating range of 1000-5000 RPM. Solid lifter (roller and flat tappet) ranges are from 3000-7000RPM. Crower also mfgs solid rollers for A engines/

Question which is better?

Thanks for the input.
Which would be better; solid lift flat tappet, or hydraulic roller?
I was just curious if there was a "best of both worlds" solid roller.
what kind of cams do NASCAR engines have? flat tappet, hydro, solid, roller? I want a cam that gives me power in the low rpms (1000-3500) but let my 360 rev up around 6000 before the valves start to float. any suggestions?
when it comes to cams, I just cant pull my head out of my a$$
what I do have is a comp cams 268/268 dur 454/.454 lift and...
an unknown brand 291/295 dur, 482/484 in/ex respectfully.(Idegreed this one myself(four times to make sure))
I have 10.5 to 1 pistons, 727auto with a MPP 166K 2250-2350rpm stall conv. and 3.91 gears all in a 5th Ave (heavy)
Like I said earlier, cam science is not my forte.
Thanks for the help.

I believe you have to add some kind of oil restrictions to the lifter galley and peen them through the lifter holes to run a solid roller cam in a SB Mopar. For what you are looking for a nice hydraulic flat tappet cam would work best. Call Hughes Engines with all of your specs and he will set you up with a cam for your combo that works awsome. They did for me.

Wink Infamous ROLLER mod

Yes to run a solid roller in a small block there are a few things to modify. A reamer is run through the passenger side oil galley and then 2 pieces of copper tubing are installed. A swedge like tool is driven through the lifter bores. Then you need an aircraft length drill bit to reach the same copper tubes from the main saddles. The distributor needs a bronze gear. I found the hardest part of this mod to be clearancing the lifter bores. What I did was get an old hydraulic or solid lifter and drive it through the lifter bore after the swedge/peening tool, it will peel off a little amount of the copper tubing. Then it can be honed to finish. But I always liked the sound of a good roller cam! Hydraulic rollers cost so much more.

Like Nightri1 said, you have to modify the passenger side oiling passage or sleeve the lifters bores to run the Roller cam.

You haven't looked too hard, all the major cam manufacturers make solid roller cams for the small and big block mopar, but most off the shelf roller cams (for Mopars) are for 3,000 RPM and up race engines.

For the RPM range you want in a roller cam, it will need to be custom ground. I think with the power band and RPM you want your going to need a split profile cam with a wider lobe seperation angle. To get the good low RPM torque the cams duration @ 0.050" will probbably be around 240?
You will want more exhaust duration, maybe 250 @ 0.050" and maybe ground on a 110 LSA, installed at 106 degrees.
These are estimates off the top of my head. If you want I can double check some of my data and run a simulation on Desktop Dyno 2000.
I would expect the valve lift to be around 0.550"?

I checked Hughes Engines and their High Velocity Solid HEV3945AS with 239/245 @ 0.050" duration, 0.546"/0.560" lift on 107 LSA is rated for 1,900 to 5,600 RPM power Band.
The HEV4550AS with 245/250 @ 0.050" duration, 0.560/0.575"" lift on 106 LSA is rated for 2,300 to 6,000 RPM power Band.
