Best plug
I have a 1969 383, with a hemi grind cam. Running mostly stock except for a Holley 750. I am currently using bosch platinum plugs I have been having a problem with excelaration. I pulled some plugs and they were black and shiny, I am no expert but I think this means that I am running a little too rich or The floats aren't set right or one of a million other problems. the question Is could I be running too cold a plug or are my plugs the least of my worries. I always recieve valuable advice from ya'll, I really appreciate it..........Jim

For starters a plug thats lean will look uncoated as in the white porcelin remains very white, this is lean enough to destroy parts, plugs that are shiny around the electrode are the leanest yet, plugs that are chalky black are too rich,if your plugs are shiny and black it doesnt make sense at 1st,but in actuality it means your too lean at some point and too rich at some point,1st Id look at the carb,if it isnt new or sat around the garage for a couple years I imagine that its at fault, rebuild it and soak it in carb cleaner for at least 24 hrs,Other things that can make an engine impossible to jet are too low of compression(100 psi minimum, and even then with a bigger than stock cam it may not be high enough). Also too weak of spark, with the coil wire off and cranking it should jump 3/4s of an inch.Last a vaccum leak will make it impossible too.I only run Bosch Platinums so as long as there the right ones it shouldnt be your prob, hope this helps.........PRO.......
