CD Changer Instalation
I am going to be instaling a Pioneer CDX-673 CD changer in my 01" Ram this weekend. Anyone have any tips for doing this.
Whats the easiest way to get the wires hooked up behind the trucks stereo? |

Pioneer Changer
Well, as far as getting to the back of the head unit, if it is an aftermarket deck, you will use the "keys" that came with it to pop it out. If it has a trim ring(not flush mounted), pop off the trim ring and use the key to slide out the head unit. If it is flush mounted, you will have to take off the dash trim in order to get to where you can use the keys.
For hooking up the wires, if it is a Pioneer deck you are connecting to, then I believe all you will have is an IP Bus connection to plug in. If it is not Pioneer or compatible to the IP Bus connection, then you will have to use an FM Modulator. This will change the signal from digital to analog, and play basically thru your FM radio signal. I've never hooked up an FM Modulator before, someone else might have better insight with that, although I'm sure there would be some directions... With the IP Bus, you would get true digital CD quality sound. What type head unit are you connecting to? |

Yes, this is an FM Modulator type unit. I am going to put it under the back seat. I will be running it off the stock AM/FM cassette stereo in the truck.
So far I figuerd out how to get the dash trim off, as well as the swing down cup holder, so I got the antenna all conected. I guess the hardest part will be figuring out where to conect the two yellow leads fro power. Ther is some instructions fro this, but of course there pretty vague with only a diagram that tells me what lead is supposed to conect to what. Lost my light for the day now though. Ill have to try and do more tomorrow. Thanks for the rseponse. |

OK, I got everything wired except the two power leads now.
For the life of me, I cant figure out how to tap into the 12v power for these. I need a 12v constant power feed and one 12v ignition swtched feed. Anyone got any ideas? |

both of these wires are on the harnesses that attach to the back of the stock deck. if you are mounting the changer near the front of the truck, you could probably split these and then run new wire to the changer.

Well, I wanted the CD changer under the back seat, out of the way.
So what I ended up doing was splicing into the leads off the back of the Power Outlet and the Cig. Lighter. Worked out really well I think. Easy to get to also. Once you get the Cup holder and the dash trim of. Then just ran alll the wires under the door trim, to the back seat. The Power outlet is constant 12v and the lighter is ignition switched 12v. |
