Default '71 Plymouth Twister?

Listed in the paper is a 71 Twister one of 500 made. Looking for some motor specs on this car. How much horse did it make? Out of what motor? How Rare is this car? Guy wants $4500 for it, is that a good price if it is in good shape? Any info on this car would be a great help before I go look at it.

thanks

Michael

Default Twister

Go look at it - unless it's something really special, I don't think it's 1 of 500 - maybe 1 of 150,000. Tell us about it and we'll give you opinions of it's worth. Remember..."my widget is worth more than your widget, because it's MY widget"

A Twister was an option package on the Duster. It basicly made the plain Duster look like a 340 car. It was pretty much a stripe package. The slant six was the standard engine with a 318 optional. I have seen about 5-6 in my lifetime and most were 318 and a 3-speed on the floor. I have seen a red one, a B-5 blue one, a Yellow one, and a lime green one and they all had the same engine and trans combo except one of the red ones had a 225 with a 904 auto. In my opinion $4500 is way too much for one unless is looks like it just came off of the showroom floor, and still $4500 is over twice as much as they cost new!!!

I have seen two, and both were white, Slant, and console auto cars. $4500 doesn't sound too bad IF it is nice condition.

Maybe they just sold more of them on the West Coast. They are all over the place, here. You could check with Galen Govier at gts.com. I think that's his address, and he will most likely be able to tell you exact total production numbers. I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't be worth anywhere near $4500. Much more like $1000 to $1500(out here), unless it's a concours restoration, or a perfect, very low milage survivor, with all kinds of documentation.

The Twister for 1971 was an appearance package, not a performance package,it included dual chrome or painted mirrors, dual soop hood with black out treatment,Twister side stripes, tail panel stripes, sharkstooth grille,High impact colors were an option. This is a base duster with rear side windows that pop out, quite a few had the houndstooth seat material although most are bench seats. My Father owns 1,it was a 318-2bbl/904/7.25,(now a 360/727/8.75) his is Go Green with black out hood with white side stripes (original)His is ps and manual disc brakes(4 piston calipers)and they are all small bolt pattern(5 on 4")Weve added duals with chrome a body tips and 14x7" rallyes up front and 15x8" rallyes in the rear, youd swear this had to be a 340 car.He originally paid 4K for his with 65,000 mi in vgc which prob was a little much,Id look to spend around 3K if its a 318 and in vgc............PRO.........
