Common and expensive problems with used Neons?
Hi, I was wondering if there are any common and expensive to fix problems with the first generation Neons. A good friend of mine in high school had a 96 with 100K+ miles and dogged the hell out of that thing, but never had any problems with the car. The reason I ask is because I'm about to get my used car dealer license. I plan on selling Neons at first since they seem to be good all around cars and are relatively cheap at dealer auctions, but alot of cars that end up at auctions have problems.
Thanks! |

NEON
95-97:
HEADGASKET UPSTREAM O2 SENSOR (MOPAR PART# 5233088) SOME DRUM BREAKS SOME EGR VALVES NOT MUCH ELSE BESIDES NORMAL MAINT. ITEMS (WIRES, PLUGS, THROTTLE BODY CLEAN, ETC...) I WORKED FOR DODGE FOR 4 1/2 YEARS, DID MANY H/GASKETS! IT WOULD LEAK GENERALLY AT THE BACK OF THE HEAD EXTERNALLY, USUALLY NOT INTO THE CYLINDERS. ALSO, MOST 95 MODELS ENDED UP WITH A PITTED HEAD, 95 ONLY I STRESS. 98 AND UP CAME WITH THE MLS (MULTI LAYER STEEL) GASKET. MUCH BETTER. IT IS AVAILABLE AT THE DEALER ONLY, FOR THE 95, 96, & 97 MODELS ALSO. MECHANICALLY IT'S A PRETTY GOOD LITTLE ECONO CAR, IT WILL TAKE A GOOD LICKIN'. ALSO, THE 2.4L IN THE JA & JX BODY, (STRATUS, CIRRUS, BREEZE, AND SEBRING CONVERTABLE) HAD THE SAME H/GASKET PROBLEM. THE MLS IS AVAILABLE FOR THEM ALSO. THE 2.4L IS BASED OFF THE NEON'S 2.0L DOHC. HOPE I HELPED GUY. |
