We all know the chevy guys have it easy.
I need some info and I know someone, or a few of you will know. I'm building another circle track motor that is real tight on "stock " rules. Does anyone know if Dodge made a rod or crank lighter? or if a 273 rod, or crank weighs less than say a 318, 340? I'm trying to lighten things up legal and too the rule book. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks Michael |

Not sure if it is lighter, but I have a steel forged 318 truck crank with radius fillets if you want it.

The 273/pre'72 318/360 2v rods are alot less beefy than the post '72 318/340/360 4v rods, They weigh less. Matter of fact, a light rod on a forged 340 crank will be 100 grams out of balance, there you go. 340 forged cranks had a 1 inch hole drilled out through the connecting rod journals to compensate for the heavier rods. Use a forged 340 crank, or Brians 318-3 crank (drilled) and some 2v rods and balance the throws, and youll have the lightest "factory" setup.

I was just give a early 318 block, 69-70, looks like. I'll check that connecting rod thing.
If anyone can come up with anything eles, it would help make our race year for 2001 Thanks Michael |
