Edelbrock, Comp cams, Crane, are all good. Here's a better one, who makes a dual idler gear drive for big and small block mopars?

Dual idlers usally aren't as good as compared to the other set up. Reason is the dual gears can flex/move around. The fixed gear dosn't move.
MoPar sells them for the small block which means some one else is making them. ANS> Milodon. But you gotta want it. At about $370.00 for the "LA" and about $435.00 for the "B-RB" it's not in my bugget! Pete jackson makes a dual idler unit for the "B-RB". I don't know about the small block. Let me call jegs..he he he... Pete Jackson..no "LA" And the dude said it looks like nobody makes them for a smallblock. |

Thanks for the info Rumble. I always knew Milodon made the single setup, but it seems to me the dual would be much stronger. And it ticks me off that duals are readilly available for Chevys. Luckily I can beat them with a chain setup anyway; it's just that no matter how good a chain is new, it eventually stretches and weakens. Oh well.....

THE BEST chain and gear set is the one made by Rollmaster.Made in Australia, not junk. Not exactly cheap either($99.00)but will outlast any on the market.I've used one in my race 383 engine for 5 years with no stretch what so ever.My new 440 has one as well.Pure quality. If that is too much,I like the set from Edelbrock, made in USA,unlike the Mopar Perf piece.Another I used that is good was made by Zoom (the clutch mfgr.)but I don't know if they make them anymore.

I used almost every brand in the market; ones that had billet gears and were over 100$ and the 40$ Summit units. They all had one thing in common; they stretched in a year. You either just have to live with that or use a gear drive (or a belt drive, but I have no experience about them). I have both dual idler and single idler gear drives in BB's, a Pete Jackson in a '451' and a Milodon in a '493'. I would say that go with the Pete Jackson dual idler, it has worked flawlessly for five years now and cost only about half of the Milodon single idler. The Milodon works well too, but is harder to install and on my opinion doesn't seem to have any advantage over the dual idler PJ.

I usually use the Cloyes Double roller (about $60), it is pretty good and not too expensive.
I have used the Summit double roller which is fairly cheap ($45-50), but I was not very impressed with it. The Rollmaster looks really nice, but it costs about $100. |
