I know this is a no-brainer, but where should the timing gear alignment marks be positioned when installing the gear set? It's been some time since I took it apart & I've forgotten. When I put both marks to the inside of the crank/cam it didn't seem to look right. Surely someone can help.....

The dots should be against each other, carnk mark at 12 o'clock position and cam mark at 6 o'clock position. It may seem a little strange, since this way the compression stroke is in the #6 cylinder, and in the #1 thed valves are 'changing'. If you turb the crank one full round, you'll get both timing marks at 12 o'clock position, and the compression to the #1 cylinder. But it's easier to get the timing marks correct putting them against each other. It's the same thing, you just have the ignition in #6 cylinder.
