67' 383 2bbl - 727 $100 I think I SCORED!
Well I know you probably all think I am a dreamer or something but I finally think I am gonna go BB in my dart.
went to Bigblockdart.com and checked it all out, looks simple enough. Yesterday my Brother and I went to a Local Swap meet at Amarillo Tx and it sucked so we packed up and went junk yard hopping. Junk yards closed at like 3 so we went driving around and found 15-20 First gen. camaros and like 2 mopars outta driving around ALL DAY, Mopars were cool though ( a 68' Dart GTS 383 auto/ NOT FOR SALE AT ANY PRICE) and a (72 Cuda sitting in a driveway NOT for sale). Anyways we were tired of not finding anything for sale so we headed home at like 5pm. We came to a small town and found a 68' camaro sitting behind this gas station, and so we thought the little town might be loaded so we drove around a while and found 3 dusters (one which I picked up complete for $50! Disc brakes and all) and a 67' Plymouth Fury II 4 dr. with a 383 2bbl-w/ 727 (that I scored for $100) so needless to say had a good day drove on home with Grins as BIG AS TEXAS! I am posting this to ask a few questions. I know from reading another guys post that the heads on 383s suck, SO I have some 452's at my fathers house in west texas, will these heads be okay with my new engine, they need some minor work but I plan on leaving the stock valves alone and just putting new springs on them and doing some gasket matching and cleaning the ports up a bit.????? Is it true if a person has some C-body axles that Moser can cut them and repline them for under a Hundred dollars for a A-body? Also how much NOS can a stock set of Cast BB pistons handle if the fuel sytem is up to par? 150? 175? I don't wanna go no more than 175 really. Uhhhm, You guys have ANY more suggestions for this swap???? Its gonna happen and I am going to pull this 383 next weekend. oh boy and I am so excited! Come on please give me some really good advice. Thanks Swinger321 |

Here's what I'd do-depending on the end results you want, of course- 10:1 pistons, 284/.480 cam, 750 holley on a single plain intake, headers with 21/2" duals. Have a ball!!!!!!!!...djs

You will definately need new pistons. The ones that are in that engine have a negative deck height. With the 452s, you will have about 8:1 (or less) compression.
As far as heads go, you may wish to consider the new EB heads. By the time you buy a set of 452's and clean them up, you will have spent more than the cost of the EB heads. |

I'd say you scored. Sounds like a ball of fun.

Huh?
Huh?......does no one know the answer to my c-body axle getting cut to A-body specs question.????
I was hoping someone could shed some light on this subject, cause now I have the 73+ front disc brakes, and I have 4 1/2" bolt patt. wheels, need rear axles. Hope someone can answer this. Thanks for the replies so far Swinger321 |

Sorry, if moser or strange are out of the question, (For new ones)then the "C" body axle's can be cut down and resplinded. I dont know if the'll do that so call them yourself and let me/us know.
