440 buildup,need hp opinions
This is my 440 buildup, wondering what the estimates are for hp/torque.
440 (445 cid, .030 over 440) Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, 88cc chambers TRW 2295 pistons, 10.3:1 compression Edelbrock TM-7 Tarantula single plane intake 850 cfm Speed Demon carb Hooker Super Comp. fenderwell headers, 2" primaries, 3.5" coll. Comp Cams XE284 284/296,.507/.510(with 1.5 RR), 110 LC 1.6 roller rockers I've seen several milder combos pushing over 500hp/500 ft. lb of torque. Id be very happy with anything over 500hp. What are your opinions? Thanks once again. |

Sounds good but the old tm7 is so out dated...I would use a M1 single plane or an Rpm preformer, depending on the weight of the car (heavy car preformer) (light car M1).........Your going to loose some power with the 2295 and the 88 cc edelbrocks.... I would use 2355 trw flat tops and the 84 cc edelbrocks.... That will give you better flame travel and better quinch.....I have never see one of those demon carbs work as good as HP 950 holley....The cam is a good one, i use something very close to that and i'm very pleased with it..( ISKY 292 505 510)....Lee....

That lift is with 1.5 ratio right? so at 1.6 youd have 540 int lift, this is ok but those heads will handle .575 so why not capitalize on that? Its free power so to speak.Lee has a good point about quench I think Id check it out. This combo should give you 475-500 at the crank. The tarantula is dated but its such a bad mudda and looks so cool Id probably run it too..........PRO........

Actually the heads will handle .600 lift with the supplied valve springs. I already have the TRW 2295 pistons and the Edelbrock 88cc combustion chamber heads. I'm just looking to see how much power is available from this combination, not really looking to change it. Thanks again for the replys!

I would definitely consider the previously mentioned 1.6 rocker ratio. This can be done by just removing the valve covers. It really is a shame in a way to have the flow available from the Edelbrock heads and not even approach the potential of them. Open them valves up. Good things will happen and you wont lose hardly any drivability.
Lee, you seem to be very happy with your HP 950 Holley and I am considering one myself. Did you see the November issue of Mopar Muscle? There was an excellent article where they dynoed 5 Demon carbs. I sure wish there was someplace I could see a comparison between the 950 Race Demon and the HP 950 Holley. Could the difference in performance (whatever there could be) be worth the price difference?? Unless Im convinced with hard data, Im still thinking about going with the HP 9 |
