Default starting up after 6 months off

I have been working abroad for the summer, and by the time I get back to Cali, It will have been over 6 months since I last ran my 440. It´s a fresh hi-po engine (10,5:1 TRWs, forged crank, six pack cam) with less than 3000 miles on it.

I´m planning to crank it over without the lead ignition wire to prime the oil pump, but what other suggestion do you have to preserve this fine motor of mine? Miracle oil into the spark plug holes? Should I get the oil pump drive attachment for a power drill and get it going without even cranking it?

Tell me the magic method and my engine will be thankful forever.

Well, you could always prime the oil pump using a drill w/ the distributor removed, spinning the crank with a ratchet, and locating TDC and dropping the distributor back in. But what I do is floor the pedal one and a half times, and I start it up.

Six months, you have nothing to worry about!

If you want to be extra cautious, I pull the plugs spray a little oil in, disconnect the coil wire, then crank it over to lubricate. It spins real fast with the plugs out because there is no compression. The faster spinning ensures oil pressure gets high enough to get everything lubed up good. Let her spin until you feel comfortable. The added benefit of doing it this way is it also primes the fuel pump & carb.

But like that fat one says, floor the peddle a couple of times & start her up. You'll have no problems at all.

Hey Mr. Bastard, how do you FLOOR the pedal a half time?

I love mixed metaphors, too. Thanks for the tips.
