Default S/B Aluminum Heads

I'm in the market for a set of aluminum heads. They are to be used in a some what stock 340. '64 Barracuda with a 340 4-speed. I want to bolt them on and go.

Edelbrock makes a set #6017, but does Mopar? What's the Mopar part #, and are they better than the Edelbrocks. I've heard some stories about alternator brackets not lining up properly, and exhause manifold problems. I'll be running 1970 340 exhaust manifolds.

I just don't want any problems. I certainly don't want a rig job. What should I do?

Mopar does have the Commando Aluminium heads, but I've never seen a set. I suspect that is due to the cost. The edelbrocks are a lot less money and come complete. I've heard good and bad about these heads. Have you ruled out ported steel heads?

My E-brocks were a bolt on and go except for the Alt. spacer. Since I didn't have the stock one to start with, I just cut down a spare length of tube. Fit perfect.

I assemled a set of new 2.02 340 heads from Mopar. After all of the parts were bought and assembled he cost was about $850.00, Just about what you would pay for machine work and parts for a set of 30 year old heads and they are about $400.00 less than The Edlebrocks whick leaves enough for a good carb.

mopartsracing has the commando's on sale for 1450 complete pair. the've got the W-2 exhaust port shapes but use standard headers or exhaust bolt pattern. Carl @ *******.com made 600hp with a home ported set on his smallblock stroker.
