Default fuel mileage

I have recently bought a 98 2500 Diesel quad cab auto two wheel drive. I was wandering what kind of mileage I should expect. The truck has the twelve valve engine with 100,000 miles on it. I hear about mileage as high as 28 and as low as 10.
I am getting about 16 on the road and would like to find ways to increase this.
Any Ideas

Thanks Richard

All of the regular things work. Minimum weight, pump up the tires drive easy, etc.
There are reports that propane injection can increase mpg up to 3miles and some report that bigger injectors help some. I have not seen any that would get 28 mpg but there people claiming that number. I would get it to a good diesel shop and ask them to tune it for mpg.

I got 16.6 towing my Super Bee on a car trailer to the Chrysler Classic at Norwalk. Averaged 60 - 70mph.

Dakota: What rear gears does your truck have? That and speed driven will have the greatest impact mileage on mileage. My 96 CC 2500 4x4 with 5 spd will get 20-21mpg if I drive 70mph. Around 18mpg if I drive 75mph. Duallys get a few mpg worse than 2500s. But 2wd should offset since I have 4wd. I'm not sure if there is much of a difference between stick/auto, but I imagine the stick is 1 mpg higher or so. I've got 3.54s, if you've got 4.10s, then expect 2-3 mpg less than I get.

Default milage

16.5 is about average i have sen 4.10 gears kill milage on a diesel. 3.54 are the best. have a diesel shop check the injection pump timing we have seen alot of them of by a few degrees that also kills milage.
