Red face

I have recently purchased a 1970 satellite that has a great body. The only problem with it is the fact that is has a slant six. The condition and price were too good to pass up.
I need some advice regarding a engine swap. I would like to put in a slightly modified 318 or 360. From looking at the way the six is mounted I'm going to have to change some frame members.
I'm a recent convert any advice or clues would be greatly appreciated.

Brian, last summer I swapped a big block in place of a /6 in an 83 model truck. The 400 was an earlier option but all the holes i needed were already there. I already had the motor mounts so all I had to do was drop her in. Aside from a larger radiator it was a piece of cake. Since your car was also available with v-8 options I would imagine that your swap should be reasonably simple.

You have to get the v8 K-member for the swap then the smallblock motormount brackets for the correct motor.

BrianM. Call Schumacher Creative Services @ (206)364-7151. They make special brackets that will allow you to put the smallblock in without changing the k-member. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice,
Looks like I'm gonna be switching a k-frame this winter, if I can find one. Then I'll be able to answer any suspension questions.

If the special brackets are available, I would opt for that route, it is likley easier. Give them a call! Good luck!

Question

I had a chat with somebody at schumacher's and unfortunetly they don't have anything for a B body.
Would a K frame from a late 70's B body like a 78 Fury fit a 70 B body?

Biggrin

Why bother switching engines? Take a /6, build it up a little, a high stall converter wide ratio 904, some 3.23's or 3.55's, and do some burnouts! Almost no one builds up Slant Sixes, if you gave one a chance you might be surprised! Come to Speedy and Tim's Slant Six Page and see what we have to offer information-wise. I can't guarantee you'll run 13's in a B-body with a 6, but it should go fairly well.
