Default Sanity check, please.

Just finished putting together my 318 to replace the 360 in my 76 Power Wagon. I've run into a few problems and need some advice.

I swapped the intake manifold from the 360 to the 318, then realized that the opening and stud pattern on the manifold is too large to accept the OE carb (Holley 2280).

I tried to fab a spacer gasket adapter, but the holes overlap the studs, making it next to impossible to do.

What I want to do is just put the OE 360 carb (Holley 2245) on there and be done with it. But I have emissions concerns. Here's where I need the advice of those carb experts out there.

Given the odd combo, should I rejet the 360 carb down or not? If so, how much. The stock jets are 64s.

Any advice is appreciated, as I am going broke renting a car. Thanks.

Just slam dunk it on and ride yourself of the rent-a-car. When it comes time to test it via sniffer, you should have the bugs worked out. See if a freind can test it before hand. I hate to pay a shop for this kind of service, but, it could be worth the bucks as so to aviod the hassle.

OH ya, I'm betting on a jet down. How much is the big question though. Sorry, I have not done this swap.

Is it a 4 barrel? There are 3 kinds of 4 barrels and should have the proper intake. Square bore, spread bore and the Dominators.
I'm guessing the 360 is spread bore and you are trying to drop the square bore on it. There is an adapter to cure your prob and I even have used one. It bolts to the manifold then the carb bolts to the adapter. Any speed shop should have one or can get one.
I know in the 50's and early 60's there was a 4 barrel slightly smaller than the square bore. If its a 2 barrel I don't have a clue but it would not surprise me if there were different sized bases.

Glen440;

I think there are 2 diff. sized 2bbl bolt patterns. Not including the old strombergs of course.

There are two different size bases for the 2bbl. the smaller one is the Carter ball-and-ball (???), and the other is the Holley. The Carter was on my '67 Satellite's 318 poly when I bought the car. My friend had a '67 383 2bbl Newport, and his Holley was bigger - I know I wanted to put it on.

Just for information's sake:

The manifold is off a stock 360 and accepts a Holley 2245/2210.
The OE application for the 318 calls for either a Holley 2280 or a Carter BBD. What I tried to do was put the 2280 on. It is about 1/2" narrower in the base than the 2245/2210.

I've got in on now, and I didn't rejet, only because I couldn't find the 62 jets (stock are 64s) I was looking for and don't really have time to wait on an order.

I'm pretty much screwed anyway, though because those a$$holes at Kragen sold me the wrong damn carb. I got the no emissions when I asked for the Cali. emissions. FYI, don't even try to hook up an EGR with this carb.

It ran so rich the neighbors were complaining. Pulled off the EGR vacuum hose and it ran like a champ. I'm gonna ruin someone's day at Kragen today..
