Can't seem to get my headers from leaking fumes. What is the best gasket and method to seal them. I was told about a brand that you can soak in water and then install and tighten. Any ideas?

I have used two sets of gaskets to make one set. Use mechanics wire to outline each port at sealing area, use hi-temp silicone to hold wire in place, and lay other gasket on top to make one gasket.
Worked for me until I could get header flanges machined flat.

Good luck.

Something my buddies have been doing lately is using the muffler cement ont he header flanges with the gaskets. Once this stuff sets up it hardens and seals great. I have heard that if you soak the paper gaskets over night and put them on wet that they are softer when installed and seal better. I have not yet tried this though.

The muffler cement works though and is cheap although the soaking is cheaper.

See my post above. I tossed my headers and installed the 68-70 Hi-Flows.
I really like them-much less grief all around ,and good perforance, and sound.
I've struggled like you, it gets frustrating.

yes ,soaking the paper or cardboard gaskets does seem to help . makes them soft then then dry stick to head so cant blow out ,unless of course your header flanges are uneven.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try ro reseal them, and.... if all else fails, I have a set of old 340 exhaust manifolds from my 340TA engine. Probably not as good flow as my "comp" headers but, I'm getting sick of gassing myself as I drive. I've already lost enough brain cells over the years.
