HOLESHOT;
The line locks should do you fine. There a cheap way of doing what the transbrake will do. The transbrake is the ultimate. But a lotta $$$$. (so i'm told, being a 4 spd guy) |

The line lock will simply keep you on the staging line, with your rear suspension already loaded. The trans brake locks the trans in reverse and first, negating each other and putting no load on the rear suspension, (but heating the fluid by the second). Once you release the trans brake, the reverse "releases", the trans is now in first with all your stall revs hitting the rear, planting the tires and giving you loads of traction. Lots of money, lots of stress, lots of heat. This is what I got from a trans guy.

It's basicly like popping a clutch is'nt it? Sounds like would reduce the life of your tranny. Is line-loc better/faster than just foot brake method? I'm considering line lock just for burn-out to save rear brakes and also for launching if they will hold car on line with front runners.

A single line lock will never hold a car on the starting line. Dual line locks with one on the drive axle will, but, they are not legal in sportsman classes. If you want to leave like that, the only way is a trans brake.
The life of the trans on a trans brake varies. Hitting one at 3000-4000 they will live forever, hitting them at 5000+ is a different story, but they still last many many passes. Even then, it is just the clutches getting torn up, easy rebuild. |

Lets say it another way. Trans break for when your really serious about gettin going for the win light.
Line locks for the weekender and light racer. Montrose ram; It's not like poping a clutch because its under load. Popin the clutch is suddenly slaming a load. The weekend warrior dosn't really need this level of performance, or to be bothered taking a tranny out for simple rebuilds. We all want as little down time as posible. |

I ran 4 wheel line loc's with a delay start setup for 15 years. With drums all around and kevlar linings, it would hold to 3000. With discs it's another story. That will limit the rpm choice you want to leave at. Least that's my experience.
